How long have you been at collaboration Factory and why did you join the company?

I’ve been working at collaboration Factory for three years now. I joined when we were only between ten to twenty colleagues with one single office location in Munich and a few customers. A good friend of mine, one of our founding members, approached me to join collaboration Factory. At that time, I was employed in a consulting firm and was looking for an opportunity that allowed me to work in a more entrepreneurial way and build something from scratch. After a few talks with our inspiring founder Rupert and the amazing #bestteam, I was absolutely thrilled about this opportunity.

What is your vision for collaboration Factory as Chief Operating Officer?

My vision for collaboration Factory is to enable and empower our customers to shape their enterprise solutions for various business challenges in a self-determined manner. By using our software cplace and its growing ecosystem, our customers can achieve efficient collaboration in their dynamic environments.

To make this vision come to life, I want to build a company with a culture that people are proud of and want to be part of. A culture and workplace where employees want to put in all their skills, enthusiasm and passion to solve our customers’ challenges as a team. I want collaboration Factory to be a place of personal and professional growth – for our customers, our team, and our products.

In my role as COO, I support our journey towards this vision by formulating and executing our strategy, continuously developing our organization and leading our consulting and professional services unit.

You set up the office location in Hanover. What was your experience like and how has the location developed since then?

Our main motivation to set up a location in Hanover was to be closer to our customers in the north, so we started with two tiny office rooms in the Hanomag founders’ area. It was a super intense and exciting time: Leading cplace projects, building relationships with customers, developing business – to just name a few areas of responsibility at that time. Then our teams were growing as well and we had so much luck with the colleagues we recruited. All of them are great people – super committed, loyal and reliable, which was and still is the basis for our sustainable growth.

By mid-2019 we had outgrown our first location and moved to our lovely new office at “Pelikanviertel”. The new location is very stylish, there is plenty of space to collaborate with customers and partners and to grow further. At the moment, we are a team of 15 colleagues with different work experiences and backgrounds. I am proud of having a team full of experts in various disciplines, ranging from software engineering up to consulting.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of your role?

I love building and growing things. Mastering challenges, learning new things, thinking bigger to overcome obstacles as a team - these are the things that really motivate me. I’m an enterprise software guy as well as a computer scientist by nature, so the combination of IT and business topics at collaboration Factory makes it super versatile and exciting for me.

However, the most rewarding aspect of my role is all about the people. I really like to support colleagues in improving their professional and personal skills and being a part of their way to unlock their full potential. This may simply be through giving advice, challenging them or providing growth opportunities alongside coaching. I always had and still have this kind of people both in my professional and my private environment. This makes me very grateful. It’s one of the best moments for me seeing one of my “mentees” shining in the spotlight while watching them from the back row.

Roughly describe a project case that particularly impressed you.

I’m always impressed when our teams successfully master great challenges and grow beyond themselves. For example, one of our customers uses cplace to enable efficient collaboration throughout the complete product lifecycle management process – from idea to research and development to rollout and market entry. Introducing a new IT system is challenging enough, but we managed to align core business processes across several business units and functions through this project. That was amazing!

I’m also thrilled whenever customers can see and execute the full potential of cplace on a scale that even we ourselves wouldn’t have dreamed of so soon.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

I would like to have the ability to psychically manipulate the flow of time. The world is so rich in opportunities and adventures, one could experience more of them by decelerating the passage of time. And you could stop time for special moments with special people.
